Ana "La Gitana"SAMEDA Secretarysecretary@sdsameda.comBelly Dancer Extraordinaire!Ana's has been told many-a-time that she has "charisma" and that her dancing is "beautiful and mesmerizing". She is known for her graceful way of moving to the music, her beautiful veil-work, and especially her zill work. Ana enjoys dancing, and her passion shows through her dance. Ana is a well-known performer and teacher in Southern California and in Baja California, Mexico. She was featured several times on Mexico's Channel 12 TV and has been in several articles in the San Diego Union. She also works part-time as an "extra" for Background San Diego.
Ana dances at many local events, parties and restaurants, including: 5 years at the famous Greek Town Restaurant downtown, 2 years at Crete Island Restaurant in Oceanside, Sam's Grill in El Cajon, Park Café in El Cajon, Oasis Hookah Lounge in Bonita, and she was the organizer and lead dancer for the Mediterranian Café on 5th Avenue in San Diego. She has organized events in San Diego and also in Mexico, and is always willing to lend a helping hand to any of her colleagues. Some of Ana's fun adventures were with the singing telegram services "Live Wires" and "Call-a-Gram". In the singing telegrams, she would be accompanied by a trusty drummer (sometimes Dave Dhillon or Emad Semaan) and would "snake" out of a bag, Cleopatra style. Those were the days!
She is director and choreographer for "Ana's Mirage Belly Dancers". They have danced at many local festivals, including 7 years at the famous San Diego Street Scene Music Festival, "First Night San Diego", the biggest local New Year's Eve party, the Gator by the Bay festival, downtown Mardi Gras Festival, and San Diego's Brazilian Carnaval. Ana took her first belly dance lessons around 20 years ago with teachers Kishma and Francene. Cyrena was also her teacher and she learned her zill technique with Lily Splane of "Zills on Fire". She has also taken workshops with US and international dancers: Marguerite, Marta Schill, Angelika, Fahtiem, Judy Reda, Rachel Brice, Dahlena and Delilah.
Ana teaches belly dance throughout San Diego county and in Mexico. Being proficient in both English and Spanish has come in as a plus in her business relations. Ana feels that belly dancing is not only good for the body, but also good for the mind and soul-and what better way to share your joy! See Ana's website at: www.anabellydancer.com |
